Porlock makes an excellent base for a weekend of cycling on Exmoor. A group of six of us stayed in the village for two days of riding on Exmoor and the country south-east of Minehead, and finding somewhere that could take a group of that size is not always straightforward. On this occasion we sorted it through friends, staying at Rose Bank House on the high street.
Rose Bank Guest House is a high-quality bed and breakfast in the pretty Exmoor village of Porlock, and it is a great place to stay. The owners bought the business in summer 2016, a considerable career change that involves plenty of hard work, but they seem to be enjoying it and have big plans for the place.
Part of what makes it work is the location. As well as a warm welcome, you have some excellent pubs and restaurants right on the doorstep. The Ship Inn is only a few yards away, and so is the Piggy in the Middle restaurant, which serves great pies.
Then there is Exmoor itself. A few miles up the road and you are in the National Park, which is what brought us there in the first place. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Exmoor, Porlock is a strong choice.
